概要
Since ancient times, Okinoshima, with its shrine “Okitsumiya”, has been revered in its entirety as an “island where gods dwell”. As a strategic location vital to the destiny of the nation, it’s a rare site where traces of ancient rituals remain, reflecting the transitions of different eras. That faith continues today, passed down through sacred rituals like the “Miare Festival” and woven into the daily lives of the people.
Visit Munakata Taisha Hetsumiya, one part of the "Sacred Island of Okinoshima and Associated Sites in the Munakata Region," inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017. This exclusive experience offers a rare opportunity to participate in a formal prayer ritual (Seishiki Sanpai) within the Main Hall which is usually closed to the public. You’ll also receive direct explanation from a Shinto priest and then participate in the cleaning of the shrine grounds.
The tour also includes a guided visit to the Takamiya Saijo, an ancient open-air ritual site, and the Shimpokan Museum, which houses 80,000 artifacts, all of which are designated National Treasures.
A portion of the proceeds from this tour will be used for the preservation of cultural properties at Munakata Taisha and related sites.
This tour begins and ends at Munakata Taisha. An alternative plan is also available, where a guide will accompany you from Hakata Station using trains and buses.
*On the 1st and 15th of every month, we offer a special plan that includes participation in the Tsukinami-sai, a monthly ritual, at both Munakata Taisha Hetsumiya and Nakatsumiya.
*¥50,000 for 2 persons
An additional ¥15,000 for each additional participant
Group size: 1-8 people
(for 1 participant, the 2-person rate applies.)
