Tea ceremony is not something you understand by reading about it. It's something you understand by being in the room — by sitting with someone who has made the same bowl of tea, in the same way, for decades, and still finds something new in it every morning.
Your guide picks you up from your hotel and brings you to a tea master whose entire relationship with chado has been built in rooms like the one you'll enter together. Before you arrive, your guide sets the cultural context — what wabi-sabi means in practice, what ichi-go ichi-e asks of you as a guest, and what to pay attention to once you're inside.
The session itself is a guided ceremony — not a demonstration you watch, but a ritual you participate in. You'll receive seasonal wagashi chosen for this specific day, prepare your own bowl of matcha under the master's instruction, and spend time in genuine conversation about what this practice means in a daily life.
Back at your hotel by noon, with your afternoon completely free.

On the way to the ceremony room, your guide explains what you're about to enter: the meaning of the roji (garden path), the significance of the tokonoma alcove, and what the tea master thinks about while preparing the room each morning. You arrive as a prepared guest, not a tourist.

9:30 · Tea room Your guide introduces you personally. The session begins with the seasonal wagashi — chosen by the master for today specifically — before the preparation of matcha begins. Your guide interprets the master's narration and invites dialogue throughout: about the practice, about Kanazawa, about whatever the room opens up.
