Overview
Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017, Munakata’s “Sacred Island of Okinoshima and Associated Sites” holds a profound place in Japan’s national destiny and time-honored rituals. This rich heritage still thrives today, evident in the Miare Festival and deeply woven into daily life.
Genkai Ryokan in Konominato, “Port of the Gods,” is dedicated to revitalizing the local community through its ancient stories. Their 1-night, 2-day tour includes various cultural activities and a pasta-making class taught by Chef Fuchigami, the winner of the Barilla Pasta Championship ASIA 2024.
You’ll start with a visit to Hetsumiya Shrine, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Munakata Taisha Shrine. Then, join local fishermen and later enjoy your fresh catch for dinner. Accommodations are at Genkai Ryokan’s ocean-side annex, where you can experience n authentic Japanese summer festival complete with beachside Bon Odori and traditional celebrations.
Day two begins with an ocean-view breakfast, followed by a visit to “Michi-no-Eki Munakata.” There, you’ll learn about the local food culture while selecting ingredients and finally create a one-of-a-kind pasta lunch under the guidance of Chef Fuchigami, Asia’s Pasta Champion, resulting in an unforgettable gourmet experience.
These two days will allow you to truly savor the blessings of Munakata’s sacred ocean.
