Kanazawa has one of Japan's most underrated bar scenes. Sake breweries going back 300 years. A craft cocktail culture shaped by the city's tea and lacquerware traditions. Hidden standing bars tucked behind the main streets of Katamachi where the regulars have been coming since before you were born.
This isn't a sake tasting with a menu, or a bar crawl with a map. It's three hours in the company of someone whose evenings in Kanazawa have been shaped by these places — who goes to these bars because they want to, not because they're paid to. Through 2 to 3 carefully chosen venues, your guide shares the personal histories that make each place matter: how they found it, what the owner's family story is, what particular drink changed how they think about Kanazawa's flavour.

Station area：A newer bar scene that reflects Kanazawa's evolving identity — craft cocktail bars influenced by the city's lacquerware and gold leaf aesthetics, sake bars with curated Ishikawa-only selections, and spaces where the city's contemporary culture is quietly being made.

Ishikawa jizake：Local sake from breweries in Kanazawa, Noto, and the Kaga region — selected by guide or bar owner for the evening. Often unavailable outside Ishikawa.
Craft cocktails (Kanazawa style)：Bartenders who use local ingredients — Kaga tea, yuzu from Noto, lacquer-influenced aesthetics — to create drinks that couldn't exist anywhere else.

◾️ Good to Know
Bring cash — the majority of Katamachi bars do not accept credit cards. A few station-area venues accept IC cards or cards; your guide confirms before each stop.
The bar scene in Kanazawa comes alive later — an 20:00 start is recommended. Earlier starts are possible but some venues may be quieter.
Comfortable shoes — Katamachi backstreets involve varied surfaces, and some bars are accessed via stairs or narrow entrances.
If you have strong drink preferences (non-alcoholic alternatives, specific spirits, low-alcohol options), message your guide before booking — they will plan accordingly.
The venues chosen change based on the guide's current relationships and what's happening that specific night — no two tours visit exactly the same bars in the same sequence.
