Overview

Within walking distance of Hakata Station, the largest railway station in Kyushu, lies the Old Town of Hakata, which has flourished since ancient times as a port city trading with the continent. The history dates back over 1,200 years.
Amidst the skyscrapers, you can enjoy a peaceful historical walk, exploring Japan's largest wooden seated Buddha and historic temples and shrines. Visit the places associated with the cherished Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival and experience the festival's spirit. As an option, you can also try making a Hakata lantern or painting a Hakata doll.
