概要
Kintsugi is a centuries-old Japanese philosophy made visible: that breakage and repair are part of an object’s story, not something to hide. In this small-group session, you’ll work side by side with a local kintsugi artisan in a quiet traditional setting, learning to mend broken ceramics with lacquer and gold.
But this isn’t just a craft class. Your WOW U Local guide stays with you throughout, translating not just language but culture. They’ll share why wabi-sabi still shapes everyday life in Kanazawa, what the artisan is thinking as they work, and the questions you’d never know to ask.
No two sessions are the same. Each one reflects the season, the artisan’s mood that day, and the stories you bring. You’ll leave with a ceramic piece you repaired with your own hands, and a new way of seeing imperfection that will stay with you long after.

ルート
- 1
Meet your Local guide at Kanazawa
Your guide welcomes you to a traditional workshop space and sets the cultural stage: what kintsugi means philosophically, and what to expect from your time with the artisan.
- 2
Hear the artisan's story — in a language you understand
Through your guide, the artisan shares how kintsugi has shaped their life and worldview. This is not a rehearsed script. It’s a conversation shaped by who you are and what you bring to the room.
- 3
Repair a ceramic piece using kintsugi techniques and gold
Working alongside the artisan, you’ll apply urushi lacquer and real gold powder to a broken ceramic piece, using the same tools and techniques kintsugi artisans have relied on for centuries. Your guide helps you understand each step as you go.
- 4
A conversation about imperfection, beauty, and life
As your piece rests, the room opens into something rare: a genuine exchange between an artisan, a cultural guide, and you. Topics range from craft philosophy to Japan’s aging towns to what “enough” looks like in a hurried world.
- 5
Take home your piece — and an address you can write back to
Your repaired ceramic is yours to keep. The artisan often writes a small note with the piece's name in Japanese. Your guide shares where to explore Kanazawa's other craft traditions if this sparked something.
