Positioned over a large stretch of Japanese coastline, Fukui prefecture understandably has its fair share of beautiful beachfront. Easily reachable by ferry, one of the more popular local destination is the uninhabited beach island, Mizushima. With clear blue waters and bright white beaches, there are few places better suited than cooling off on a hot day than Mizushima. Fukui is also home to a great deal of rare natural history. One of the best of its kind in the world, the Fukui Dinosaur Museum is host to over fourty dinosaur skeletons on display. For travelers looking for a deeper cultural experience, the mountainous Eiheiji temple remains an active monastery and is one of the two head temples of the Soto sect of Zen Buddhism.
