Fukushima Prefecture is located in Japan's Tohoku region, north of Tokyo. There are many prime locations to visit inside Fukushima, like the mountainous volcanos, stunning hot spring waters, and prominent ski resorts. Fukushima was badly hit by the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and the resulting Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Disaster. However, the vast majority of the prefecture is at standard levels of radiation and the public is blocked from entering areas of potentially dangerous radiation in the "No Entry Zone" which only makes up a very small fraction of the prefecture's land. Much of the region has since recovered thanks to national and international support and rebuilding efforts, but there are still ongoing volunteer efforts to restore the area near the coast to its former prosperity.
