Hakuba

Hakuba is a mountainous region in Nagano Prefecture that is a popular destination for hiking in summer and skiing in winter. It is named after its main mountain range, Mt. Hakuba which includes multiple mountains that exceed a height of 2700m. The Hakuba area includes 11 popular ski resorts and is famous for having some of the highest snow levels on Japan's main island. The area achieved international fame when it hosted the Nagano Winter Olympics in 1998. After engaging in snow sports you can relax in some of the local hot springs (onsen) and enjoy local food.
