About Akio

Hi, thank you for stopping by my self introduction. I am a tour guide with 10 years career so far wishing to guide you to interesting spots; not only at historical sites such as Tochoji Temple in Hakata area, Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine and Japan 26 Martyrs Museum in Nagasaki but also at some contemporary aspects of Fukuoka, for example, some artworks of Taiwanese visual artist, Michael Lin, found in Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine and Beppu city in Oita pref as well and some unique furniture and interior designs done by one of the leading architects in Japan, Kengo Kuma, in Yame and so on. So, please do not hesitate to give me a contact if you would like to know more about the history of Japan with some spice of contemporary flavor. Akio’s ability to blend contemporary art with Japan’s history and spirituality is impressive, he made Shinto’s abstract nature click for me through a single metaphor about a magnet gathering people the way a shrine does. His decade of guiding plus his years in New York resonate with me and his years in Canada come through in how naturally he connects with an international audience. I’d recommend him to any traveler who wants stories and meaning, not just sightseeing.

Akio is very knowledgeable about the different places he will take you. You will learn so much about the places he will show you, as well as many different amazing views of the city. He also speaks great english so you can easily communicate with him as well. He is also very personable and nice as well, so he is a great guide to take you around the city.

Akio gave an engaging introduction that highlighted a different side of Fukuoka beyond the typical tourist attractions. I enjoyed how he combined the city’s history with its modern art scene, making each location feel more meaningful. His explanations were clear and easy to follow, and his knowledge of the area’s culture and historical events made the presentation interesting from start to finish. After listening to him, Fukuoka seems like a place worth exploring, especially for anyone interested in art, history, and local culture.

During Akio's online self introduction, I feel that he explain the activities that can be done in Fukuoka well, and expanded my interest of the city. He explained how artists from all over the world came there through artist stay programs, and art is all over the city. He showed us pieces that artists put in the shrine from a hand made metal ball and contemporary art created by a Taiwanese artist. He also showed pictures of a view of the city with the sea as a backdrop. Akio told fascinating history and told us to imagine the Mongolian fleet with it's many ships all around the coast of Japan. He also told us about the origins of Kamikaze from when the Mongolians tried to invade Japan. He was good at explaining the history and the art of the city. It sounds like it would be a fun tour to experience and makes me more interested in Fukuoka.

The sites he visits are interesting enough, I believe the art piece with the giant metal ball of magnets was a bit of a curveball and is nice to generate interest in the tour itself and get people to pay attention. His english is good, good enough to be able to hold a conversation and get his ideas across to travelers. His expertise in Japan and especially in the arts is nothing to scoff at either, so if you're the kind of person who's interested in that, than I believe Akio is a good fit for you in your stay in Japan.
