Takehara Historical Preservation District, which is also known as Hiroshima's "Little Kyoto" is a district in Takehara city which has kept many traditional Japanese buildings such as breweries other various merchant stores and houses. Perhaps the most famous feature of this district is it is the home to the father of Japanese whiskey Taketsuru Masataka, where he opened the first whiskey distillery in Japan. The Takehara area is also famous for the making of salt, and the salt production industry thrived during the Edo period. Take a stroll around old Japan in this quaint little district and get a taste of the old life!
