Nojiriko Lake is an ancient lake located in Nagano prefecture. In the summer, paddling is popular in the tranquil lake. In the winter, the snow capped mountains can be seen reflected on the surface of the still water. The lake is known as being the site where fossils of the extinct Naumann's Elephant have been excavated and there is a history museum nearby where you can learn more about this prehistoric animal.
