Pretty nice spot overall but the tour lacked anything of substance due to problems with the translation device and the lack of english on the exhibits making it incredibly hard to understand the context behind the items being displayed.
Wakayama City Museum
“Four centuries of castle-town history, all for a 100-yen ticket.”

Wakayama City Museum opened in November 1985—exactly 400 years after Wakayama Castle was built in 1585 and the castle town below it was born. The permanent exhibition, themed "Wakayama's history as told through artifacts," traces the region's story from prehistory to the modern era: Toyotomi Hideyoshi's campaign to subdue the Kishu region, the town's golden age under the Kishu Tokugawa clan—one of the three great branches of the shogun's family—and the air raids that reshaped the city in 1945. Visiting before or after Wakayama Castle adds real depth to what you see there; the stone walls and street grid start to make sense as chapters of one continuous story. The museum also hosts rotating special exhibitions and hands-on learning programs throughout the year. Best of all, admission is just 100 yen for adults and free for high school students and younger, making it one of the best-value history stops in the region. Located a five-minute walk from Nankai Wakayamashi Station, next to the city library, it slips easily into any walk around the station area.
