◾️ Key Features of This Tour
E-bike rental for full half day — yours to keep riding after the tour
All entry fees included — Ninja Temple + Kanazawa Castle area
Traditional wagashi sweets and matcha included

Kanazawa is a city designed for wandering — narrow lanes, unexpected courtyards, canal paths that lead somewhere different every time. An E-bike lets you cover the distances that walking can't while staying slow enough to notice what you'd miss in a car or a bus.

Your local guide has spent years building a personal relationship with the places on this route — not as historic sites to explain, but as spaces that have shaped their own understanding of Kanazawa's character. In Nagamachi Samurai District, they read the walls and drainage channels as a social map. At Kanazawa Castle, they know the political decisions embedded in the architecture. At Myoryuji, they bring the 1643 lord's paranoia to life in a way that makes the hidden rooms genuinely thrilling rather than just interesting.

After the guided portion ends, your E-bike is yours for the rest of the half day — to revisit places that resonated, follow paths your guide mentioned, or simply discover what Kanazawa looks like when you're navigating it yourself.

Myoryuji — the temple that looks like a ninja's trap. Because it was.
Built in 1643 for the Maeda clan, Myoryuji has 29 rooms, 23 staircases, hidden corridors, trapdoors, and false ceilings — deliberately designed to confuse and delay any attacker long enough for the lord to escape. Your guide's storytelling inside this building is what makes it more than an architectural curiosity. Entry ticket included.

Route

  1. 1

Nagamachi Samurai District — the social map written in walls

Ride into the preserved earthen-wall lanes where mid-ranking samurai lived for 300 years. Your guide reads Nagamachi as a living document of Edo-period social hierarchy — the wall heights encode rank, the drainage channels show how the district managed collective responsibility, and the preserved gate positions tell you who was allowed to approach whose house directly. You'll understand the city's social structure through its physical form.

  2. 2

    Myoryuji — Ninja Temple(Entry included)

Park the bikes and enter on foot — this temple cannot be appreciated at speed. Built by the Maeda clan as a meditation hall and emergency escape route simultaneously, Myoryuji's 29 rooms and 23 staircases were designed by people who genuinely believed their lives were in danger. Your guide narrates the specific threats the Maeda faced in 1643 and exactly how each architectural feature responds to them: the false floors, the hidden staircases, the well that connects to underground passages. It becomes a thriller set in wood and plaster.

  3. 3

Kanazawa Castle Grounds — political intelligence in architecture(Grounds entry included)

Ride to the castle grounds and lock up the bikes. Your guide walks you through the Maeda clan's centuries of political navigation — how they built a castle impressive enough to project power, restrained enough not to invite Tokugawa attack, and resilient enough to survive fire, earthquake, and the end of feudalism. The Ishikawa-mon gate — the only original structure remaining — is the starting point for a conversation about what architecture reveals when you know what to ask it.

  4. 4

    Traditional wagashi + matcha break

Included in the tour — a traditional Japanese sweet and matcha at a location your guide selects based on the day. A moment to slow down, compare notes on what you've seen, and let the stories settle before the free riding begins.
