Overview
Most kimono rental in Japan gives you the clothes and a map. This gives you a photographer who has spent years learning which corner of Higashi Chaya catches the light perfectly at which hour — and who sees you in the kimono, not just the kimono.
The studio is steps from Higashi Chaya — one of Japan's most perfectly preserved geisha districts, where the wooden facades, stone lanes, and paper lanterns create a backdrop that no filter can replicate. Your local photographer guides the session not as a standard portrait shoot, but as a collaborative creative moment shaped by their current artistic perspective, the season, and what the particular morning light is doing today.
The kimono selection is colourful by design — vibrant patterns chosen to sing against the muted tones of the district's architecture. The contrast is exactly the point: the colour of the kimono against the ochre walls and dark wood creates images that people frame and hang on walls.
30 to 60 minutes. All photos transferred to your device immediately. ¥6,600 per person — the most accessible professional photography experience in Kanazawa.
◾️ What's in this experience
【Kimono rental during the session】
Colourful selection of kimono chosen to photograph beautifully against Higashi Chaya's architecture. Assisted dressing included.
【Professional photography — all images yours】
Your photographer uses professional equipment and their knowledge of every angle in the district. Complete digital collection transferred immediately — no watermarks, no limits.
【Private studio + Higashi Chaya locations】
Session moves between the private studio (with makeup room) and the photographer's chosen spots in the district — selected for light, composition, and visual impact.
【Artistic direction throughout】
Your photographer shares their perspective — what they notice about this season, what movement or expression they're after — making the session feel like a genuine creative collaboration, not a standardised shoot.
◾️ The best spots in Higashi Chaya — your photographer knows them all
【Main Higashi Chaya lane】
The iconic cobblestone street with preserved ochre-and-dark-wood facades. Best in morning light before 10am when the lane is quiet.
【Back lanes and garden walls】
The less-photographed side streets that offer more intimate, less crowded compositions — the photographer's personal favourites.
【Studio — controlled light】
Private studio space for clean, editorial-style portraits — useful for detail shots of the obi and kimono pattern.
【Seasonal special locations】
Cherry blossoms in spring, autumn maples, winter lanterns — the photographer incorporates whatever the season offers that week.

Choose your kimono — the photographer helps you pick for the camera
~10 min · Studio The photographer is present from the moment you arrive — helping you choose a kimono not just by how it looks in the room, but by how it will photograph against the specific locations they have planned for your session. Vibrant colours against neutral architecture. Pattern that moves well. Colour that catches the morning light.
- 2
Dressed and ready in the private studio with makeup room available
~10 min · Dressing Assisted kimono dressing in the private studio. A professional makeup room is available if you'd like to use it — mirrors, good lighting, space for touch-ups. The photographer uses this time to brief you on what the session will look like and what they're hoping to capture.
- 3
12 minutes unlimited shooting across the photographer's chosen spots
~30 min · Shoot The session moves between studio and district locations chosen by the photographer. Unlimited shots in the time — no counting, no pressure. The photographer directs naturally: suggesting movement, pointing out what the light is doing, adjusting your position by degrees rather than commands. The result is images that feel candid even when they're composed.

All photos to your phone before you leave — no waiting
Immediate · Transfer Complete digital transfer immediately after the session. Every image, full resolution, no watermarks. Suitable for solo visitors, couples, families, and groups. The photographer works naturally with any configuration.

Photos are transferred digitally on the day — bring a phone or device that can receive files.
