Mt. Fuji is a must-see for anyone visiting Japan. It can be viewed from a number of places, but most exquisitely from Shizuoka and Yamanashi prefectures. Its iconic snow-capped appearance can be seen for about half the year starting in September or October, but regardless of when you visit, make sure you have a camera ready to take lots of pictures. The mountain is also popular to climb, and the sunrise from the summit is absolutely breathtaking. However, prospective climbers beware—it is not an easy trail up or down! It is the tallest mountain in the country, and the climb is representative of that. Anyone looking to make the trek should make sure they have adequate footwear and attire, gloves, a walking stick, plenty of water, and snacks for the way. It’s also a good idea to bring sunscreen, since the sun can be pretty intense!
