Most travelers to Japan are likely to pass through Shizuoka Prefecture as it is halfway on the train line between Osaka and Tokyo. It is located in central Japan and borders Japan’s highest mountain, Mt. Fuji. Three major hiking trails up Mt. Fuji start in Shizuoka Prefecture, including the Fujinomiya trail. The prefecture is abundant in nature, with its seaside, mountains and lakes. It is also a major site of seafood production and is the largest producer of tea leaves in Japan. The prefecture features one of Japan's deepest bays, the Suruga Bay and a scenic peninsula, the Izu Peninsula. Lake Hamanako and Hamamatsu City in the west are also popular destinations.
