Nezu Jinja Shrine

History

Nezu Jinja Shrine is a historical Shinto shrine in Tokyo. Many of the shrine's buildings date from the early 18th century and are designated important cultural properties. It is considered one of the most beautiful shrines in Tokyo and it is also one of the oldest. The shrine architecture follows the style of the Nikko Toshogu shrine. So-called "torii gates" form a tunnel on the hill behind the main hall, and the shrine itself is surrounded by trees. A popular season to visit Nezu Shrine is in spring, when the azaleas on the grounds bloom.
