Zojoji Temple is a famous Buddhist temple in Tokyo, adjacent to Shiba Park. Zojoji Temple was built in 1393. The temple is famous for its Sangedatsu Gate (Gate of Threefold Enlightenment), selected as a national important cultural property, and its wooden, seated Amida Buddha statue, also selected as a tangible cultural property designated by Tokyo metropolis. The Tokugawa family, who maintained its power for 265 years, is buried in the temple grounds. Standing behind the temple, you might see the beautiful Tokyo Tower light up during the nighttime.

A beautiful temple with spacious grounds to walk around and view. Inside was a large religious statue that was moving to sit and reflect.

I loved visiting the Zojoji Temple! Located right next to the Tokyo Tower, the Temple offers a breathtaking look into Japanese history and culture. It is completely free to visit and to go inside and watch ceremonies. Stepping into the temple felt like walking into a piece of history. Would highly recommend to any tourists!

This is a very beautiful spot in Tokyo. It is right in the heart of the city and yet it is relatively quiet. The main temple is huge and you can watch ceremonies in there. I highly recommend visiting this temple.

Such a beautiful place, the temple was nice and there was so many interesting things there like the Buddhist statues as well as the grave site. You also get an amazing view of Tokyo Tower from here and it's no more than a 5 minute walk to go to Tokyo tower. Amazing place overall.
