Cool experience overall, I'm not a huge sake fan in general but even despite that I still appreciated it!
Higashiyama Shuraku
“Taste your way through 120 Ishikawa sakes, then take your favorite home.”

Marked by a cedar ball hanging over its entrance in the Higashi Chaya district, Higashiyama Shuraku is a shop devoted entirely to Ishikawa's local sake. More than 120 varieties gathered from breweries across the prefecture line the shelves, and a standing bar lets you taste before you buy—single pours start at 500 yen, with three-cup comparison sets for anyone overwhelmed by the choice. Ishikawa has been celebrated as a sake region since feudal times, blessed with pure underground water, quality rice, and cold Hokuriku winters, and the lineup shifts with the seasons: fresh shinshu in winter and spring, cloudy nigori in summer, mellow hiyaoroshi in autumn. Everything else on the shelves—shochu, beer, wine, plum wine—is Ishikawa-made too. The shop also carries gold-leaf sake cups and other local craftwork, regional delicacies to pair with your drink, and edible gold leaf, and the second-floor tatami room is open for relaxing over whatever you've picked up downstairs. An easy, one-cup introduction to Ishikawa's sake culture in the middle of a chaya district stroll.
